Wum´s story

Hi,

I´ve been a member of this tribe for awhile but I´ve never posted anything. Here´s my first contribution: I´m very happy about the fast recovery of my Dachshund Wum and this is why I´d like to share his story with you Dachshund lovers. I´ve also posted two recent pictures of Wum.

Wum was scheduled for a treatment of his teeth yesterday. He is very scared of vets and as things might get painful, vets usually give general anaestethics for fixing anything that has to do with teeth. So the whole thing was a bit of a risk for an old dog like Wum. Yesterday was a long day full of worries.

The vet had to extract several teeth and she cleaned the remaining ones thoroughly. When examining my little dog closely she found a tumor in one of his testicles and we decided to remove it. An x-ray also showed that Wum is suffering from arthrosis in some areas of his spine. Fortunately it´s not so advanced and he´ll be able to go on living a happy live. His heart, liver, lungs and kidneys are healthy and his blood sample showed nothing to worry about either. He´s old but a brave and fit little Dachshund.

When I picked Wum up from the vet he was still sleeping, his blood smeared tongue dangling from his mouth, he was such a pityful sight! He slept for the better part of the day. In the evening he tried to get up to pee. He managed to walk all the way to our front door on very wobbly legs, swaying dangerously.

This morning Wum has already been running all over the place again. We took him to the vet for a post operation check up and she was very happy with him. Now we have to make sure he doesn´t lick or pull out his stitches but so far he´s been a good boy.

He´ll be as good as new in a few days I expect. ;-)

Does anyone have any experience/opinions regarding agility training for dachshunds? I would love to find a great challenge for my girl Hazel, and am wondering if anyone knows how to get started (or has any other comments, etc.)
